1. What is your full name, and how would you introduce yourself as a RAR Institute student?

Answer:

My full name is Mohammed Asem. I am a proud student of the Research Diploma Program at the Rohingya Academic Research Institute, the first and most inspiring institute ever founded by the Rohingya Scholar.

2. What is your Student ID, and which program are you currently studying at RAR Institute?

Answer:

My Student ID at RAR Institute is 523058, and I am currently pursuing a two-year Research Diploma.

3. What is your educational background before joining RAR Institute?

Answer:

I completed my studies at a community high school before I found the opportunity to take my first step at the Rohingya Academic Research Institute.

4. When did you join RAR Institute, and what motivated you to begin your studies?

Answer:

I joined the Rohingya Academic Research Institute in July 2024. I was truly inspired by seeing other Rohingya youths learning and developing sharp research skills through their studies at RAR Institute.

I witnessed some of my friends from my circle studying at RAR Institute and developing their analytical skills, creative writing, and academic research abilities. Furthermore, they were conducting different types of research and writing on different topics. I am a passionate young person who tries to write about the Rohingya’s daily struggles and resilience. However, I had very limited knowledge of research and did not know how to begin writing something meaningful about the Rohingya context that could stand with them and serve as a voice for my community. One day, I found an announcement post on Facebook announcing that RAR Institute was enrolling students for its Research Diploma Program. I immediately applied, and I was selected among many young people. Since then, I have continued my academic journey and learning at RAR Institute.

5. What were your academic knowledge, confidence, and skills like before joining RAR Institute?

Answer:

To be honest, I did not even know the term “research” before becoming a student of this institute. I had studied class by class, but I had very limited understanding of academic research. Since joining RAR Institute, I have developed my analytical skills, creative writing, public speaking, and confidence. I have also become more confident in communicating with people beyond my own community.

6. What challenges did you face when you first started your studies at RAR Institute?

Answer:

When I first took my steps at RAR Institute, I did not face any major challenges in my learning because I was truly dedicated to my studies. Whenever I did not understand something from a session, I asked the instructor for clarification. The instructor always helped me to the best of their ability to understand the concepts that I found difficult.

7. How have your academic confidence and participation developed since joining RAR Institute?

Answer:

I have significantly developed my overall research skills and understanding of different topics related to research. Now, when I try to research any topic, I can use my own creativity together with the research principles and methods I have learned and gained from the Rohingya Academic Research Institute.

For now, if someone assigns me a task related to research, I can help them conduct the research, develop a systematic methodology and outline, and guide them in appropriate data collection.

8. What important knowledge and skills have you gained from the Diploma in Academic Research Studies?

Answer:

I truly believe that I have gained a strong understanding of Research Methodology and Academic Research. Simply, academic research means finding and bringing to light the reality of a situation or context that may not be visible or understood by people, and helping them understand that situation through systematic academic research. Through academic research, people can better understand a research problem, identify the root causes of different issues, understand what is happening, and consider what should be done about difficult situations. I have learned that data collection methods, research methodology, findings, and the creation of research outlines must be accurate, credible, and reliable in order to properly evaluate a situation.

9. How has the Diploma Program improved your understanding of research methodology and academic research?

Answer:

I have significantly developed my academic writing, citation, critical-thinking, and research skills after joining RAR Institute. I have learned many aspects of research through this institute. These skills have also helped me in writing articles for publication in other globally recognized news outlets.

10. How has your ability to search for, evaluate, and use academic sources improved?

Answer:

My ability to search for, evaluate, and use academic sources has significantly improved. Now, when I need information from secondary data, I know how to evaluate the information and how to give proper credit and cite sources during a literature review. I believe I have gained sufficient knowledge about searching for and evaluating relevant supporting information for my research topics and articles.

11. What have you learned through assignments, presentations, examinations, research projects, and classroom activities?

Answer:

Assignments help me understand my level of knowledge and understanding of a particular topic. Through assignments, I have also learned from the feedback provided by my instructors when there are mistakes or missing elements in my work. Presentations have strengthened my ability to speak in front of an educated audience and in an environment where people beyond my community are actively listening to me. Presentations have also improved my public-speaking skills and confidence. They have taught me how to answer questions and learn from the guidance and feedback of my instructor. Examinations allow me to demonstrate my learning, commitment, resilience, dedication, and honesty toward the Research Diploma Program. In every examination, I have received an award or an excellence award in a very competitive environment. These achievements reflect my seriousness, determination, and hard work to earn recognition while learning honestly from this institute. The research project helped me apply my research knowledge practically. It allowed me to work with my community in the field, learn accurate data-collection methods, engage with community members, observe community situations, listen to people’s needs, understand their struggles, strengthen my findings, and develop appropriate recommendations. Classroom activities are always inspiring. I share my learning with my classmates, and I also clarify my questions and confusion through discussions with my dearest and nearest classmates at the Rohingya Academic Research Institute.

12. What would you like to say to your instructors and RAR Institute?

Answer:

Lastly, I would like to say: “Thank you so much, my beloved sir Kaisayr for giving me the opportunity and all the amazing and inspiring Professors and course wise instructors who helped me to the best of their ability to educate us by providing the Research Diploma Program.” I am truly grateful for the opportunity to learn research in an academic environment created by and for the Rohingya community.
