Designing Research Papers & Midterm Assessment Preparation (Batch 2–3)
The RAR Institute Leadership Council successfully conducted its monthly workshop for Batch 2–3 learners, focusing on two vital academic areas: research paper writing and midterm assessment readiness.
This session aimed to provide step-by-step academic guidance, enhance research and writing skills, and equip learners with the tools they need to excel both in their midterm exams and in their future academic journeys.

Workshops like these are a cornerstone of the RAR Institute’s mission to empower Rohingya students and vulnerable learners with practical academic skills that go beyond the classroom.
✔ Bridges the gap between theory and practice – learners not only study concepts but also apply them to real research problems.
✔ Addresses common mistakes in academic work – such as weak abstracts, poor methodology, or missing citations.
✔ Develops essential academic values – critical thinking, integrity, and the ability to analyze and interpret data.
✔ Prepares learners for real opportunities – strengthening both academic performance and professional growth.
✔ Encourages collaborative learning – providing an interactive environment for learners to discuss ideas, share perspectives, and receive direct mentorship from instructors.
This holistic approach ensures that learners are well-prepared, confident, and capable of producing academically sound work.

The workshop was carefully structured to cover the fundamentals of research paper writing and prepare students for their midterm assessments.
- Understand the overall structure of a research paper.
- Learn the purpose and function of each section (abstract, introduction, methodology, etc.).
- Gain hands-on experience with referencing and citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard).
- Practice designing interview guides for qualitative research.
- Strengthen academic confidence by addressing weaknesses in writing and analysis.
- Build readiness for midterm assessments through guided practice and feedback.

The training focused on key building blocks of a research paper, ensuring learners understood both structure and content:
- Abstract – Crafting a concise, clear summary (150–250 words).
- Introduction – Writing a strong background, problem statement, objectives, and significance.
- Methodology – Explaining research design, sampling, tools, and data collection methods.
- Discussion – Interpreting findings, drawing insights, and linking to research objectives.
- Recommendations – Suggesting practical solutions and policy implications.
- Conclusion – Summarizing findings and offering direction for future research.
- References & Citations – Applying proper styles to maintain academic integrity.
- Interview Guide – Designing structured, practical questions for qualitative fieldwork.

To make learners aware of common pitfalls, the workshop highlighted recurring mistakes found in past assignments:
🚫 Weak abstracts – too general or unfocused.
🚫 Poor methodology – missing clarity on research design or data collection.
🚫 Incomplete citations – lack of referencing or improper formatting.
Tips & Solutions
✅ Keep abstracts focused and precise – one paragraph, covering research problem, methods, and findings.
✅ Ensure methodology is replicable and transparent – others should be able to follow the same steps.
✅ Use citation tools and follow standard referencing guides (APA, MLA, etc.) to avoid errors.

By the end of the session, learners had achieved important milestones:
✔ A clear understanding of each section of a research paper.
✔ Improved ability to write abstracts, introductions, and conclusions.
✔ Confidence in applying citation and referencing styles correctly.
✔ Readiness for midterm assessments, supported by practice exercises.
✔ Experience in interactive, collaborative learning that built teamwork and problem-solving skills.
The workshop also created a space for learners to ask questions, receive feedback, and build confidence, ensuring that they left better prepared not just for exams but for their academic and professional futures.
