Introduction

The Advisory Board of the Rohingya Academic Research Institute (RAR) serves as an independent council of distinguished scholars, practitioners, and community leaders who provide strategic guidance, academic insight, and ethical oversight to the Institute’s mission and research agenda. The Board ensures that RAR’s work remains academically rigorous, ethically grounded, and socially relevant, bridging research excellence with community impact and policy influence.

Mandate and Objectives

  1. Provide strategic direction on RAR’s long-term academic priorities and institutional frameworks.
  2. Advise on major publications, peer-reviewed studies, and policy initiatives.
  3. Ensure adherence to international standards of research ethics and academic integrity.
  4. Foster partnerships with universities, think tanks, and policy institutions worldwide.
  5. Offer expert perspectives on Rohingya issues, regional dynamics, and global human rights discourse.

Through its advisory role, the Board strengthens RAR’s position as a credible, community-rooted, and globally connected research institution.

Composition

The Advisory Board consists of members from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including political science, sociology, human rights, peace and conflict studies, education, governance, and refugee research. Members are selected based on their professional excellence, integrity, and commitment to Rohingya scholarship.

Appointments are made by the RAR Executive Council for a renewable term, following the Institute’s governance charter and institutional policies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Advise on RAR’s research agenda, programs, and institutional development strategy.
  • Review and comment on research outputs, working papers, and policy briefs.
  • Support RAR’s ethical review and methodological standards.
  • Participate in strategic consultations and knowledge exchange sessions.
  • Promote RAR’s mission and integrity in academic and policy networks.

Members serve in an honorary and voluntary capacity, contributing to the advancement of Rohingya-led research and inclusive academic collaboration.

Engagement and Meetings

The Advisory Board meets periodically—virtually or in person—to deliberate on RAR’s strategic directions, review research progress, and provide recommendations to the Institute’s leadership. Additional consultations may focus on specific research themes or emerging policy issues. The Secretariat of RAR provides administrative and technical support for the Board’s functions.
